About

The Slane Community Forum identified that the development of a Community Centre was the priority project for the village.

According to Maeve Carbin, chair of the Community Centre Committee ‘The site, next to St. Patrick’s National School, has been secured and planning permission has been obtained from Meath County Council. An application to the Sports Capital Grant has been submitted and the outcome is imminent.’

She continues ‘The Community Centre will be a major resource for Slane National School and will provide an indoor facility for a variety of groups including Active Retirement, Sporting Organisations and Drama & Variety Performances.’

The primary objectives are to promote (i) social cohesion across all age groups, (ii) a healthy and active community as well as (iii) the unique culture and heritage of the region.

The Slane Community Centre will be a 495mfacility comprising a 7m high hall to be used by Slane National School, local clubs, organisations and to accommodate social events. The front section will contain meeting rooms, toilets and a small kitchen. The Centre was designed following needs analysis and consultation with local groups. The development is based on a financial plan that will be sustainable for the community.  The design allows for expansion of the hall to accommodate a stage during a second phase.

The following are a few examples of what the Centre can be used for:

  • Is can cater for 2 badminton courts
  • Indoor Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Training for Sports Teams
  • Fitness and Dance Classes
  • Active Retirement
  • Tea/Coffee after Communion, Confirmation, Funerals
  • Meetings, lectures and social events
